New manufacturing relationship produces battery casing in a single process
Alevo Group, the Energy Service Provider, has formed a strategic partnership with SUPERB Industries Inc., a high volume producer of engineered plastic and metal components. The partnership further enhances Alevo’s proposition by enabling high speed production of the lids and outer casing of Alevo’s GridBank battery cell containers.
Using SUPERB’s Bihler automated assembly systems allows Alevo to speed up production of the high-tech containers, merging multiple manufacturing processes into one straightforward automated process. By completing the manufacture on one machine, Alevo reduces material costs of production as well as its carbon footprint.
SUPERB has been ranked among the top 100 fastest growing manufacturers in the U.S. for three consecutive years by INC Magazine, and manufactured over 135 million components in 2014, shipping over 60 percent of them to countries such as Mexico and China. Tuscarawas County, home to SUPERB Industries has been named number two in the U.S. for job creation and expansion out of all micropolitan regions in America by Site Selection Magazine and forms a critical part of North America’s largest Amish community.
“We are so impressed with the way SUPERB industries has been able to improve upon Alevo’s production process” said Tony Walsh Alevo’s Chief Operations Officer, “Alevo benefits enormously from the dedication and workmanship SUPERB’s methods bring to each and every container shell it produces. Partnering with such a well-established and successful company is the next vital step in Alevo’s continued rise.” Added Walsh.
“At SUPERB, we believe quality, productivity, and customer value are produced from the inside out, and it is a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals at Alevo with the clear mission statement to reduce global energy wastage” said SUPERB president John Miller.
“Alevo’s GridBank technology is such an excellent product. To meet the additional manufacturing capacity required by Alevo, we recently expanded our operations by adding 12,000 sq. ft to our existing facility. We will also be adding an additional 50 people to support this growth and maintain our commitment to superb quality craftsmanship,” added Miller.
SUPERB Industries, Inc. is located in Sugarcreek, Ohio, in the heart of Amish Country. In late 2014, a virtually unknown company called Alevo announced it was entering the energy storage market with a new inorganic, sulfur-based lithium ion battery technology that it had acquired from the bankrupt German company fortu PowerCell. Alevo entered the U.S. with a big splash, investing over $68 million in the 3.5 million-square-foot former Philip Morris […]
